On 19 December 2024, a delegation of 20 students and faculty from Cheong Kun Lun College (CKLC) of the University of Macau (UM) embarked on an exchange visit to Weiyang College of Tsinghua University. The exchange activity provided a platform for learning and interaction, promoting in-depth discussions on modern residential college education, innovative practice, and holistic development of students between the two colleges.
The CKLC delegation was warmly received by the members of Weiyang College. They gained an in-depth understanding of Weiyang College’s founding background, objectives, educational characteristics, and philosophy of personal and academic development. Students and faculty from both colleges engaged in extensive and lively discussions on topics such as modern residential college education, innovative practice, and future cooperation.
Led by members of Weiyang College, CKLC students and faculty visited various facilities at Tsinghua University, including the Center of Nano Fabrication of the School of Integrated Circuits, the key laboratory of the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Microwave Anechoic Chamber of the Department of Electronic Engineering, and the Fundamental Industry Training Center (iCenter). They also learned about the university’s Creative Design and Intelligent Engineering programme. The visits broadened their horizons.
In terms of national education, students and faculty visited Tiananmen Square, the National Museum of China, the Palace Museum, the Museum of the Chinese Communist Party, and the Tsinghua History Museum. These visits deepened CKLC members’ understanding of the history and culture of the Chinese nation and the struggles and achievements of the Chinese people in their quest for national rejuvenation, and further enhanced their sense of patriotism and national identity.
This visit was the first exchange activity between CKLC and Weiyang College since they became sister colleges. Weiyang College also planned to visit CKLC in January 2025. The mutual visits and exchanges not only strengthened the friendship and cooperation between the members of the two colleges, but also provided them with opportunities to broaden their horizons, share experiences, and learn from each other. In the future, the two colleges will promote closer and deeper exchanges and cooperation, push forward the development and innovation of the modern residential college system, and cultivate more outstanding talent with patriotism, global vision, and innovative spirit.
