To promote exchange between Macao and Shanghai universities students and to enhance their patriotism, Chao Kuang Piu College (CKPC) of the University of Macau (UM) and Meng Xiancheng College of East China Normal University jointly organised the summer exchange programme ‘Urban and Cultural Development: Focusing on Shanghai and Macao’. A total of 20 students from the two colleges visited Shanghai and Macao and were divided into five joint teams to conduct field studies. Macao and Shanghai share deep cultural ties and are among the first cities in China where Chinese and Western cultures meet. Therefore, the theme of the programme was ‘Shanghai and Macao: Exploring the Colourful Journey of Culture’.

This is the seventh edition of the exchange programme between CKPC and Meng Xiancheng College. Over years of cooperation, students and faculty members from both colleges have developed deep friendships and strengthened the connections between universities in Macao and Shanghai. During the programme, the college masters and faculty members from both colleges shared their experiences in whole-person education and discussed measures to improve college education. Participating UM students said that the exchange programme provided them with the opportunity to experience Shanghai’s culture first-hand and broaden their horizons. Through interaction, communication, and collaboration, they engaged in community service with students from Shanghai and gained friendships. Students from both colleges look forward to similar exchange programmes next year and exploring different cultures and characteristics of different places.
