The third part of the ‘Urban and Cultural Development’ exchange programme was held at Fengru College of Beihang University. Launched in 2019, the exchange programme is a collaborative effort among Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) of the University of Macau (UM), Meng Xiancheng College of East China Normal University, Chongshi College of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Fengru College of Beihang University. Every year, students and faculty from these four colleges take turns visiting Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, and Macao for in-depth exchanges. The exchange programme focuses on exploring the culture of the four cities, allowing students to immerse themselves in the cultural atmosphere of different cities and regions, and enhance their cultural literacy and communication skills. Through reciprocal visits and community service, the programme aims to enhance students’ patriotism and global perspective, and promote Chinese culture.

Upon arrival in Beijing, the participants were warmly welcomed by the host. They attended an opening ceremony and a salon, and visited the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. They also visited the Shahe campus of Beihang University and its Center for Micro-Nano Innovation to learn about cutting-edge research and technology. In addition, the students were divided into groups to explore Beijing’s cultural heritage. They visited the China National Arts and Crafts Museum, 789 Art Distict, Yuanmingyuan, Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, Palace Museum, Olympic Forest Park, Bird’s Nest, and Water Cube. At the closing ceremony, three groups presented their learning outcomes on Beijing’s humanity, central axis, and nature, respectively. Faculty representatives from each college gave feedback on the presentations, and expressed hope that the four colleges will continue to foster friendship and development, and that students will remain curious about the country and achieve personal growth.
