Chao Kuang Piu College (CKPC) of the University of Macau (UM) and the Rui Cunha Foundation jointly organised the exhibition ‘Sunshine in the Mountains’ to showcase the achievements of CKPC’s volunteer teaching project in Guizhou Province. The exhibition, which was held at the Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery, featured 25 photographs of CKPC students engaging in volunteer teaching in Guizhou. It aimed to reflect on this meaningful activity with the public, to highlight the deep connections formed between the volunteers and the children in Guizhou, and to convey the college’s spirit of service.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by Li Yongxian, deputy director of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Rui Cunha, founder and president of the Rui Cunha Foundation; Lau Yun Tung, college master of CKPC; and Eliza Lei, senior presenter and programme producer of TDM.
Speaking at the event, Lau highlighted that CKPC’s volunteer teaching project is characterised by long-term commitment and targeted services. The students of the volunteer teaching team have established deep relationships with children in Congjiang County, Guizhou Province. They have also witnessed the continued development of the rural areas in Guizhou as a result of poverty alleviation efforts. Many of the students have participated in the volunteer teaching project throughout their four years at UM and have experienced personal growth. Lau expressed hope that through the exhibition, the public will feel the deep connection between CKPC’s volunteer teaching team and the children in Guizhou, and that the college’s spirit of service will reach out even further.
As the first public event to celebrate CKPC’s tenth anniversary, the exhibition aimed to raise awareness about children in remote mountainous areas and to showcase UM students’ enthusiasm and dedication to community service.
