To bridge the gap between city and countryside and to support education in remote areas, the HFPJC and the HC co-organised a service learning trip to Lingshui, Hainan from 19 to 26 December 2018. Led by three members of UM staff, the delegation was joined by twelve students from the HFPJC and nine from the HC. They organized such activities as English interest courses and public speaking courses, lessons on Macao culture, sharing on learning experience, workshops for little inventors and programmers, the Marshmallow Challenge, and DIY workshops. These activities provided local primary pupils positive and interesting learning experience, sparked their interest in learning and let them know features of other places. With the arrangements by local schools, the delegation also visited families there to better understand their living conditions. The delegation brought supplies to remote villages and interacted with local families. Through the activities, the students learned about local culture and contributed to society. Above all, they proved themselves in the face of the challenges of service learning, making a positive change to their own lives and those of the local students.
