LCWC organized a service learning trip to Kenya from 19 June to 2 July 2018. The purpose of the trip was to take its student volunteers to teach Chinese in an education center at a slum called Ganita Kawangware in Nairobi and to learn about savanna and wildlife preservation at Masai Mara National Reserve. Kenya is an African country that joined the Belt and Road initiative. Kenyan children were inspired to learn Chinese language and culture through interesting learning experience. Around 110 students in the center were grouped into three classes of learning. Although the volunteering team only stayed for a short period of time, students felt that African children were eager to learn and gifted in language learning. Apart from interpersonal skills and team work, students also gained an insight into the culture of Kenya. The experience also helped break the stereotype of Africa.
