Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) of the University of Macau (UM) held its 2023/2024 Valedictory Dinner on 12 April 2024. The event was graced by the presence of Ian Fok Chun Wan, chairman of the Henry Fok Foundation; Si Hou, director-general of the Henry Fok Foundation; and Lam Kam Seng Peter, chair of the University Council of UM.
Mok Kai Meng, interim college master of HFPJC, said in his speech that the college has achieved fruitful results in various fields thanks to the concerted efforts of all students and faculty in the college. To further promote patriotic education, HFPJC’s Patriotism Team will continue to organise activities focusing on national security, the Constitution and the Basic Law, and patriotism, with the aim of enhancing students’ cultural confidence and strengthening their sense of national identity.
Ian Fok said that since its establishment, the Henry Fok Foundation has upheld and carried forward the spirit of patriotism, social responsibility, and community service championed by his late father, Henry Fok. The foundation has made substantial contributions to the development of education, healthcare, culture, sports, and public welfare in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. He also mentioned that this year’s graduates had overcome extraordinary circumstances and faced various challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. He encouraged them to apply the knowledge, experience, and firm beliefs they had gained at the college and university to cope with changes and challenges after graduation. Fok also encouraged the students to broaden their horizons. As there are more and more policies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area that benefit Macao, students should know how to utilise the resources presented by the development of the GBA cities so as to pursue loftier goals on a bigger stage.
There were several other highlights at the dinner, including a speech by graduate representative Iris Li, the handover ceremony of the HFPJC House Association, and the presentation of awards to recognise students’ contributions to the college. Members of the college orchestra also performed some wonderful string music. The dinner ended with joy and laughter.
