The Me to We Leadership Adventure Team of Chao Kuang Piu College (CKPC) of the University of Macau (UM), in collaboration with the World Vision of Macao Association, organised the ‘Macau Famine’ 10-hour famine camp on 13 April 2024. About 100 students participated in the event, experiencing hunger and taking part in workshops and activities to learn about the lives of children in impoverished areas.

This year’s 10-hour famine camp was different from previous editions. In the past editions, participants only got to experience hunger. This time, the event included a series of talks, workshops, and outdoor orienteering activities related to poverty and war refugees to enhance the participants’ experience. The event aimed to remind and encourage the public to think about the issue and do their part to alleviate the global child hunger crisis. In addition, the organiser encouraged participants to carry on the spirit of the famine camp, and hoped to allow participants to experience the hardships of famine and water scarcity through various activities in the future.

CKPC hoped that through this event, participants would feel the hunger and hardship that refugees endure, so that they could cherish everything in their lives. The college also encouraged them to reflect on these experiences, thereby enhancing their sense of social responsibility.
