Wong Man Chung, interim college master of Cheong Kun Lun College (CKLC) of the University of Macau (UM), led 16 students on a trip to Gansu Province as part of the ‘Silk Road and Ancient China Cultural Program’ from 7 June to 15 June 2024. With the warm welcome and arrangements of Lanzhou University, the CKLC members visited famous historical and cultural cities such as Lanzhou, Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiayuguan, and Dunhuang. Throughout the programme, students from UM and Lanzhou University formed close friendships and connections, and explored the unique charm and profound significance of the Silk Road culture.
Participating students said that the programme enabled them to appreciate the magnificent landscapes in northwest China and learn about its long history. They felt as if they were witnessing the bustling scenes of the ancient Silk Road, the people living and working in peace and contentment, and the flourishing culture of Dunhuang. Although the glory of the Silk Road has faded, its cultural legacy continues to shine.
