A group of 18 students and faculty members from Xiuzhong College of Tsinghua University, led by Associate Dean Yue Dongbei, visited Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) of the University of Macau (UM) from 14 January to 19 January. They participated in a study camp on the sustainable development of tourist destinations and explored the sustainable development strategies of Macao as a world centre of tourism and leisure.
During the study camp, Jiang Chaoyang, director of UM’s Centre for Constitutional Law and Basic Law Studies, and Sio Chio Ieong, assistant professor in UM’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities, delivered talks titled ‘The Successful Implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” Policy in Macao’ and ‘Macao Is Not Just a City’ respectively. At the student leaders’ seminar, students from both colleges shared their views on the important role of student associations in promoting the college system and stimulating their innovative thinking and leadership. They also visited the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Centre of Macao to learn more about the city’s unique history and culture. Through field trips and exchanges, the students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of urban development in harmony with history and nature, as well as how to protect the ecological environment and preserve historical and cultural heritage in the course of tourism development.
The study camp not only gave students from Xiuzhong College a better understanding of Macao, but also promoted the exchanges between the members of the two colleges, laying the foundation for future exchanges and cooperation between the two colleges in the areas of college system, innovative practice, cultural education, and sustainable development.
HFPJC and Xiuzhong College established a sister-college relationship last year. This is the first return visit of Xiuzhong College to HFPJC, who visited Xiuzhong College in December last year.
