Yang Liu, college master of Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC) of the University of Macau (UM), led a delegation of nine students and resident fellows to visit the Macao SAR Government Headquarters on its open day on 21 October 2023. The open day allowed visitors to visit the Protocol Palace of the Government Headquarters. Yang led the students to visit the photo exhibition held inside the Protocol Palace and told them about Macao’s history and culture. She also pointed out that similar designs of the ‘Macao Wave’ floor tiles in the building can also be found at MLC. In the Lotus Room, students and faculty appreciated the inscription by Jiang Zemin, then general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, before Macao’s return to the motherland, as well as the unique lotus-themed decorations on the ceiling.

The visit was part of MLC’s ‘Double Celebration’ event, which aimed to give the students a deeper understanding of the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy and Macao’s history. It also improved their knowledge of Macao’s political culture and the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures, and enhanced their aesthetic appreciation.
