Students of Lui Che Woo College (LCWC) at the University of Macau (UM), led by LCWC Associate Master Chao Kuok Fai and Resident Fellow Lei Weng Hong, participated in the ‘Excellent Chinese Traditional Cultural Psychology Study Camp’ in Lanzhou from 22 May to 30 May 2023. The study camp was organised by the School of Basic Medicine at Lanzhou University. It aimed to allow teachers and students from Macao and Lanzhou to gain a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture and therefore contribute to the promotion of traditional culture through experiencing and learning about expressive arts methods in applied psychology, such as the Baduanjin qigong, mural art therapy, and aromatherapy. These experiences also allowed LCWC students to engage in exchanges with Lanzhou students, stimulate their imagination, and strengthen their social responsibility, which could prepare them for carrying out mental health and social service work in the future.
The nine-day study camp also provided an opportunity for LCWC members to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and cultural heritage of China. They visited the Dunhuang Grottoes, and the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Moon Spring, where they also learned about the country’s desertification prevention and control projects. The team also went to see Jiayu Pass, the Danxia landform, and the Ganga Secret Realm. These activities allowed LCWC members to understand more the history of Western China, the significant heritage of the Silk Road, and the profound traditional Chinese culture. Overall, the study camp strengthened the collaboration between UM and Lanzhou University, particularly in the areas of talent development and research. The camp also strengthened the bonds between the teachers and students from both universities.
