At the beginning of the new academic year, in order to help new students gain a comprehensive understanding of Macao, Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) and Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC) co-organised a series of activities titled ‘Approaching Macao through History and Culture’. The activities included a lecture on history and culture titled ‘Complicating East-West Narratives: 400 years of Macao History’ on 22 September as well as a screening of the film ‘Macao: Back to Common Roots Narrative Film’ on September 26.

While experiencing the open, inclusive, and energetic nature of Macao, college students gained a deeper understanding of the development of Macao over the centuries from the perspectives of history, culture and art. The students also enriched their knowledge of Macao, as they experience the charm and cultural heritage of Macao while studying here. The series of activities provided a wonderful audio-visual feast for the students, which not only showcased Macao’s culture and history, but also reflected the goal of the colleges to provide arts and humanities education for the students.
