A group of 15 teachers and students of Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC), University of Macau (UM), visited Shanghai from 7 July to 12 July to participate in the Cultural and Innovation Camp for Outstanding Shanghai and Macao University Students. The event was co-organised by MLC and Daxia College of the East China Normal University (ECNU). The trip aimed to help students learn more about the rich culture of their motherland through site visits, experiential learning, discussions, and presentations.

Led by MLC resident fellow Dr Fung Ka Wai, the students visited the ECNU campus in Minhang and also Daxia College. The delegation was warmly received by Han Chunhong, party secretary of Daxia College, and Prof Mu Tao, master of Daxia College. Prof Huang Aime, deputy head of the Department of History; Prof Yu Qinghua, associate professor of the department; as well as Ms Cai Huixian and Mr Du Yuanxuan, counsellors of the college, also participated in the activity.

This cultural exchange activity provided a valuable opportunity for MLC students and teachers to not only learn the history and development of modern China, but also appreciate Chinese culture, especially Jiangnan culture. This activity marked the first collaboration between MLC and higher education institutions in mainland China and laid a good foundation for future cooperation.
