From 19 to 24 December 2018, 13 students from the CYTC participated in a service learning programme in Congjiang county, Guizhou province under the leadership of CYTC Resident Fellow Diane Lu Ching-Hui. They taught as volunteers at Dadai Primary School, and visited the Miao and the Dong tribes to learn about the cultures of local minority ethnic groups.
The support for education in Congjiang county, Guizhou province is an effort of the Macao SAR to participate in the precision poverty relief program of the central government. To this end, the CYTC paid a site visit to the concerned area in July 2018. After obtaining an understanding of the lack of resources in the mountainous regions, the college students designed a range of learning activities for 67 second-grade pupils at Dadai Primary School. Under the guidance and support of the CYTC, the teaching activities of the student volunteers went well and obtained fruitful results. At the end of the programme, the headmaster of the primary school and local villagers were invited to a school exhibition to share in the learning outcomes of the pupils.
