A delegation of students and faculty representatives from Weiyang College of Tsinghua University visited Cheong Kun Lun College (CKLC) of the University of Macau (UM) from 15 to 19 January 2025 and was warmly received by the CKLC members. Students and faculty from both colleges jointly conducted a study tour to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to explore the academic, technological and cultural landscape of the region.

During their visit to UM, the Tsinghua delegation engaged in educational exchanges with members of several academic units and CKLC. They visited the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City and the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI and gained insights into cutting-edge research advancements in Internet of Things technologies and microelectronic chips. Students from both colleges also explored the Historic Centre of Macao, where they discovered the unique cultural fusion of East and West while observing first-hand Macao’s development as a ‘world centre of tourism and leisure’.

In Shenzhen, students and faculty from both universities visited several institutions, including Mindray (Shenzhen headquarters), China Merchants History Museum, Huaqing Zhimei Biotech Co Ltd, and Shenzhen Bay Laboratory. These visits gave them first-hand experience of the Greater Bay Area’s achievements in technological innovation and coordinated industrial development. Through academic seminars, cultural tours, and corporate visits, members of the two universities explored the pioneering concepts of residential college systems and the opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship in the Greater Bay Area.

The exchange not only deepened cooperation between the two universities and promoted whole-person education and resource sharing in residential colleges, but also encouraged students from Macao and Beijing to contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area and the country.
