Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) of the University of Macau (UM), together with the Chung Chi College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and Muse College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) (CUHK-Shenzhen), organised the second Lo Foo Cheung Greater Bay Area Study Tour from 20 May to 30 May 2024. The study tour saw the participation of more than 70 students and faculty from the three universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. It not only provided an important platform for the participants to gain in-depth insights into the past and future development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), but also manifested the close exchange and cooperation between UM and universities in Guangdong and Hong Kong.

During the 11-day study tour, students and faculty members from the three universities visited seven cities in the GBA, including Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Macao, and Hong Kong. They attended several talks and seminars and visited urban planning exhibition centres and history museums in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao to understand the urban planning, culture, and history of the GBA. They also visited leading enterprises such as Huawei, BYD and BGI to explore the innovative technological developments in the region. Additionally, they visited renowned universities such as UM, CUHK, CUHK-Shenzhen, and Sun Yat-sen University, for in-depth exchanges with the students and faculty there.

Participants from the three universities were impressed by the development of the GBA. They remarked that the study tour allowed them to experience the interconnectivity between the GBA cities firsthand. The tour not only enabled them to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current development and prospects of the GBA but also promoted exchanges and cooperation among students and faculty from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, thus inspiring them to actively engage in the development of the GBA and contribute to its coordinated development.

The study tour was sponsored by renowned patriotic entrepreneur Lo Foo Cheung, who has been closely following the development of the GBA. Through the study tour, Lo hopes to provide more students with opportunities for immersive city tours and exchanges, so as to enable them to learn more about the GBA, broaden their horizons, enhance their mutual understanding and build friendships, thus preparing them to become future contributors to the development of the GBA.
