Students from Lui Che Woo College (LCWC) of the University of Macau (UM) took part in a ten-day summer camp from 13 July to 22 July 2023 in Guangzhou and Ruyuan County. The summer camp, which was jointly organised by LCWC of UM and Sun Yat-sen University, included experiential learning at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University and Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, as well as volunteer teaching at Ruyuan High School. The camp facilitated exchanges between students from leading universities in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao.

During the first four days of the summer camp, the students gained an insight into the medical world under the guidance of professionals. They took part in a variety of educational activities, including interactive seminars, workshops, and medical demonstrations, to gain a better understanding of the complexities of modern medicine.

The summer camp also included six days of volunteer teaching at Ruyuan County. Students from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao jointly organised interactive workshops, delivered engaging lessons, and conducted sports and drawing competitions for the students in the county. The lessons they taught covered a wide range of subjects, including medical science, language, and culture, which enhanced the students’ understanding and self-confidence in these areas.

For LCWC students, the summer camp was a remarkable experience that enabled them to improve their knowledge integration skills, leadership skills, and sense of service. For the students from Ruyuan County, the learning experience served as an inspiration for them to pay it forward and contribute to society in the future.
