Chao Kuang Piu College (CKPC) of the University of Macau (UM) and Meng Xiancheng College of East China Normal University (ECNU) jointly organised the summer exchange programme ’City and Culture: Focus on Shanghai and Macau’. A total of 20 students from the two colleges travelled to Shanghai and Macao to conduct field studies in humanities, geography, science and technology, culture and creativity, and nature.

Led by Zhang Shen and Wei Jie Jun, instructors from ECNU’s Meng Xiancheng College, the students visited several museums and scenic spots in Shanghai. They explored in depth the city’s unique historical and cultural heritage, customs, and traditions around the five themes of ‘nature’, ‘science and technology’, ‘humanities’, ‘geography’, and ‘culture and creativity’. In addition, the students introduced the cultural heritage, cuisine, urban landscape, and local customs of Shanghai and Macao to primary school students in Wujing, a town in Shanghai, and learned about the spirit of mutual assistance through community service.

During their time in Macao, CKPC invited Dr Ieong Hoi Keng to present an overview of Macao’s World Heritage Sites and the successful inscription of the ‘Archives and Manuscripts of Macau Kong Tac Lam Temple’ on UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific and International Memory of the World Register.

In addition, the students visited a number of famous landmarks in Macao to learn more about the Historic Centre of Macao and experience the city’s unique blend of Chinese and Western cultures.
