Staff and students from Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC), Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC), Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC) and Moon Chun Memorial College (MCMC) respectively participated in a field trip to Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin organised by the Macao Youth Federation to learn about its latest development.
The first stop was the Hengqin port. The docent said that Hengqin port would soon be developed into a complex with shops, offices, residential areas, and hotels. In addition, in the near future, the underground of the Hengqin port will be connected to Guangzhou-Zhuhai railways and Macau Light Rapid Ttransit, facilitating traveling for Macao and Hengqin residents.
Afterwards, the group visited Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone Planning Exhibition Hall, Hengqin-Macao Youth Entrepreneurship Valley, and Zhuhai UM Science and Technology Research Institute. The visitors learned more about the strategic positioning, plans, and development goals of the Cooperation Zone, all of which aim to enrich the implementation of the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy, promote moderate diversification of the Macao economy, as well as create new spaces for Macao residents to live and work.
They also visited the exhibition hall of Hengqin’s underground pipe gallery where they learned that pipines for telecommunications, internet, water supply, and garbage collection are all hidden under Hengqin’s roads using integrated pipeline technology. Finally, they visited Hengqin Rowing Park and Harrow Innovation Leadership Academy to learn about Hengqin’s high-quality educational resources.
The study trip provided the participants with a deeper understanding of the Cooperation Zone and broadened their horizons in terms of career and personal development. Through this trip the students gained insights into how they can take the opportunity to integrate themselves into the national and region development.
